Matt Hughes Vs. Renzo Gracie UFC

On September 19, UFC 103 Franklin vs. Belfort will be held in Dallas, Texas. Just a few weeks out from the event, it's time for my UFC 103 preview and predictions. I'll give you a preview of the major fights on the UFC 103 fight card, and then I'll give you a prediction for all of them as well.

Over the last three UFC fight cards, I've gone 11-1 with my UFC predictions. That's 4-0 for UFC 100, 4-0 for UFC 101 and 3-1 for UFC 102. So in other words, take a seat and read my UFC 103 preview and predictions from top to bottom to get a glance at what's going to go down on September 19.

UFC 103 Preview: Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort

If you look at Rich Franklin's career dating back to 2003 when he came to the UFC, and you took away the two losses to Anderson Silva, all you would be left with is a close, could have gone either way split decision loss to Dan Henderson. He has 12 wins in the Octagon, and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Wanderlei Silva in June.

Vitor Belfort is making his return to the UFC, not having fought in the organization since back to back losses to Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz, the latter of which was in February of 2005. Belfort is an interesting opponent for Franklin because he has more than enough power to test his chin. However, Belfort is a guy that lost almost all of his big step-up bouts over the course of his career, going 0-5 against Ortiz, Couture, Chuck Liddell and Dan Henderson.

Franklin will be cautious to avoid Belfort's power, and his all-around game including his striking and improved clinching will make the difference. The fight won't be all too dissimilar from Franklin's last fight, the win over Wanderlei. If he decides to open up he could get the stoppage, but does he want to take that chance?

UFC 103 Predictions: Rich Franklin defeats Vitor Belfort via unanimous decision

UFC 103 Preview: Mirko Cro Cop vs. Junior Dos Santos

Not too long in the past, Dana White directed one of his public rants in the direction of Mirko Cro Cop. While all wounds appear to be healed, White's penchant for rooting for fighters and setting up others for losses may be coming to the surface again. In Junior Dos Santos, Cro Cop will be facing a powerful, aggressive and skilled fighter that is one of the rising stars in the division.

This has all the makings of a Dana White I'll get the last laugh moment here. Cro Cop is always dangerous, but he never has seemed completely comfortable in or adapted to the Octagon, which requires a more complete skill-set than other environments. Expect Junior Dos Santos to bring the heat, and look to make a statement by ending the fight early.

UFC 103 Predictions: Junior Dos Santos defeats Mirko Cro Cop via TKO

UFC 103 Preview: Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann

Martin Kampmann dropped down to the welterweight division following a TKO loss at the hands of Nate Marquardt. In his last fight he won a decision over WEC transfer Carlos Condit. Mike Swick is riding a four fight win streak, beating Josh Burkman, Marcus Davis, Jonathan Goulet and Ben Saunders during that stretch.

Mike Swick is another one of Dana White's golden boys. Much like Kenny Florian and Michael Bisping, both of which I predicted to be exposed in their recent step-up matches, Swick has been hyped up for years while being fed strings of mediocre opponents. He won't have a size advantage over Kampmann and he'll be facing a fighter with arguably as much power as he has.

Swick can end the fight at anytime by landing one of his powerful, speedy strikes, however Kampmann is tough and will ward off Swick's power with his own. If the fight goes to the ground, Kampmann will have the advantage as well. Another Dana White favorite takes an L in a step-up bout.

UFC 103 Predictions: Martin Kampmann defeats Mike Swick via submission

UFC 103 Preview: Josh Koscheck vs. Frank Trigg

Josh Koscheck has gone just 3-3 in his last six fights and is coming off a devastating and surprising knockout loss against Paulo Thiago. Frank Trigg hasn't fought in the UFC in over four years, but is riding a four fight win streak across other organizations.

Unfortunately for Trigg, the best element of his game, his wrestling, will be matched and outdone by Koscheck's. Koscheck has better striking at this stage of their careers and is quicker and more athletic. Trigg is susceptible to submissions as well as to being knocked out. Look for Koscheck to work the ground and pound and potentially find his way into an inviting submission finish if the punches don't end it first.

UFC 103 Predictions: Josh Koscheck defeats Frank Trigg via TKO

UFC 103 Preview: Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca

Hermes Franca is a great fighter to watch. He brings it hard every second of every round of every fight that he's in. He's coming off a win against Marcus Aurelio after dropping back to back decisions to Frank Edgar and Sean Sherk. Tyson Griffin is coming off a win over Rafael Dos Anjos after also losing a decision to Sean Sherk (and beating Marcus Aurelio).

Franca's aggressive, sometimes unorthodox and always busy style has flummoxed many of the opponents he has faced. He can submit with the best of them, and he can take strikers out of their game, landing his own wild shots. The style that gives Franca problems however is the strong wrestler who can control where and how the fight is fought. Having a good chin also helps, as Franca's wild punches pack some serious power.

Against Tyson Griffin, as with Sean Sherk and Frank Edgar, that's exactly what he will be facing, so unfortunately a similar end may be in his future. Expect Griffin to stifle Franca's attack and dictate the terms of the fight, eventually settling in with some ground and pound. Because of Franca's submissions though, he won't be able to open up completely to finish the fight and will have to settle for winning rounds.

UFC 103 Predictions: Tyson Griffin defeats Hermes Franca via decision

That wraps up it for my UFC 103 preview and predictions. The fights will be held on September 19, coming to you from Dallas, Texas and being shown live on pay-per-view.
